New food labelling regulations are good news for the industry according to fast food franchise Wendy’s CEO Rob McKay. All major South Australian fast food retailers will be required to display kilojoule information on their menus from January 2012 in a ruling announced on 6 March by South Australian Minister for Health John Hill.

“Wendy’s has been working towards this for some time now and we fully support the introduction of these new regulations in South Australia. It’s an important step for the industry and we are embracing the changes,” McKay said.

“This announcement follows similar regulations introduced in New South Wales earlier this year so we have already done a significant amount of work in this area to ensure we assist our stores through the process."

Wendy’s franchisees have been equipped with detailed nutritional information on every product offered by the brand for several years.

“We’ve always believed it’s important for our franchisees to be able to provide detailed nutritional information to customers who may want to know more about a particular product,” McKay said. “Labelling on our menu boards is really just the next step in this process and will play an important part in helping customers to make informed decisions when choosing what to eat."
