The first Ready Steady Go Kids franchise is opening in Townsville later this month.

Ready Steady Go Kids, a multi-sport and exercise program for children is now franchising, with the first franchise recently sold in Townsville.

There are already over 40 existing locations in NSW, Victoria and South Australia, but the business' first franchise, and first Queensland location, will begin trading at the beginning of term 3 (18 July 2011).

The program is offered to children between the ages of two-and-a-half and six years, and Townsville's franchisee, Sharon Mortimer believes Ready Steady Go Kids will fill a hole in the market in Townsville.

"Recent studies in Townsville have cited sporting activities as something parents are concerned about in their children's development," she said.

"Ready Steady Go Kids gives young children the chance to try a number of sports in a fun, inclusive and safe environment. Involvement in sporting activities helps combat childhood obesity and promotes confidence in children who are yet to begin their schooling."

What's involved for Ready Steady Go Kids franchisees?

  • Franchisees get an exclusive territory, which has been mapped out according to household wealth and the number of two to six year old children in the area
  • The initial franchisee fee is $15,000 which includes a $1,500 training component and $6,000 for marketing expenses
  • Franchisees must undergo a police background check and must also have, at a minimum, a Level 1 Coaching Certificate, which can be obtained in two weeks and is completed remotely. Relevant first aid certifications are also preferred
