A furniture retailer and wholesaler is launching its business as a franchise. Semara was one of several new franchising systems on show at the Sydney Franchising and Business Opportunities Expo at the weekend.

Semara stocks an extensive range with furniture manufactured in Indonesia and homewares also sourced overseas. To purchase a franchise, including all stock, the fit-out, and training, will cost $160,000, with ongoing fees set at six percent royalty, and two percent for marketing.

Owners John and Maree McSweyn plan for up to 12 outlets in Sydney, then expansion in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Melbourne. The McSweyns are looking for strip locations similar to factory outlets for their branded stores.

Potential franchisees are likely to be couples and while some retail experience is a benefit, it is not essential, said John McSweyn.
