Eye care and eyewear company Luxottica has held its inaugural franchising conference, attended by more than 90 Luxottica franchisees and support staff representing each of Luxottica’s optical brands.

Held at Sydney’s Olympic Park, the conference focused on the principles of franchising, business partnerships and how to make the most of the already thriving franchising system.

Luxottica’s director of franchising, Peter Baily, said “The conference was the first of its kind and provided our franchise partners with new skills to help them increase their sales and profitability. It was a great opportunity to recognise excellence through a number of awards covering customer service, marketing, business performance and Full Franchise Partner of the year.”

Included in the speaker line-up were founder and chairman of the Franchise Relationships Institute, Greg Nathan, and executive director of DC Strategy, Rod Young.

The award categories covered customer experience, marketing, business performance, and optometry’s Full Franchise Partner of the Year. This award went to Glenn Barltrop of Laubman & Pank, Brookside. Barltrop's commitment to employing and training graduates and his involvement in the Franchise Development Council was cited as an example of leadership to Luxottica and the industry.

Named as Full Franchise Partner of the Year, James Abson and Deanna Reeves, franchisees of OPSM Croydon, were recognised for their efforts to grow the store. Their strategy included implementing new systems and structures and the acquisition of a local competitor. The team was described as “a true inspiration in the franchise network” and acknowledged for its contribution to the local community
