Franchisors recently came together at at a think tank organised by franchise advisory service, Think Franchise, discussing pertinent issues in the industry and brainstorming ways to ensure the success of their franchisees.

The franchise think tank was held in Sydney in September and will be followed up by another in February or March next year, and Steven Clare, executive director at Think Franchise, said he hopes they will held every three to four months after that.

"Their purpose is to help improve the franchise sector," he said. "They allow the sharing of knowledge between franchisors by having key franchisors present to discuss their experience in a round table styled discussion. It enables franchisors to improve their systems and improve franchisees' revenues in the long term."

A number of franchising figures attended the recent think tank, including David Ciantar, general manager of Anytime Fitness as well as representatives from Xpresso Delight, Flowers by Fruit, Westpac and Seek Commercial.

Clare said the attending franchisors and their franchisees can benefit from the think tank's discussions on legal issues in franchising, marketing, retail leasing and business development.

"Franchisee guest speakers will also be invited to talk in the future - multi-unit operators who can offer some thoughts and guidance to franchisors in terms of communication and franchisee dealings," he said.
