Calm for Kids is a yoga franchise founded by Tricia Riordan

Calm for Kids, a yoga-based program for children is expanding its franchise opportunities and plans 10 more franchises within 12 months. The program’s founder, Tricia Riordan launched the model in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast last year after teaching yoga for three years in Brisbane halls, schools, after school-care facilities and day-care centres.

Riordan said the Calm for Kids business was viable through multiple income streams. “There are classes held out of school hours in schools and halls, as well as a curricula program that consists of primary school students attending a 35 minute relaxation class once a week for eight weeks for $2-$3 per class,” Riordan said.

“To a motivated franchisee there is a good return on investment as there are low ongoing costs and little overheads,” she said.

“Classes are currently running in the four major Brisbane areas,” Riordan said. “These come with a database of potential, past and current customers. Territories will be based around franchisee local areas and will range depending on the locality."

Riordan said experience isn't necessary to invest in a franchise. “You don’t need official yoga training but franchisees must be passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and committed to making a difference in kids’ lives,” she said. “The ideal franchisee would have children of their own or have worked with children.”

What’s involved for Calm for Kids franchisees?

  • Franchisees receive an exclusive territory which has been mapped out according to the number of two to 12 year-old children in the area
  • Franchisee fees are $10,000 plus GST for all areas outside Brisbane.
  • Fees for the four major Brisbane areas are $15,000 plus GST. These areas already have classes  running and come with a database of past, potential and current clients.
  • Additional start up expenses include $550 for equipment and a recommended $1,200 for a merchandise start up pack
